Complete PC Backup available in Windows 7?
Does Windows 7 include the Complete PC Backup and Restore that is in Vista Ultimate?

You can create a system image using the 'backup and restore' option in the Maintenance section of the start menu. At the moment I think Microsoft have just changed the name of the option, but, from what I can see, it does the same thing as Complete PC Backup does in Windows Vista. Personally, I haven't used this option in Windows 7. I used it in Vista but found it unreliable, therefore I stick with Acronis True Image.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

What went wrong when you tried to restore the image? Did you have the image on a separate hard drive or something else?

Hi Cavicchi,The problems wasn't so much restoring an image (I have used both a seperate hard drive and DVD's); my problem was that, for one I don't like incremental backups (after all if you accidentally delete just one file, you have, to all intent and purpose, lost the whole backup.) Therefore I prefer a 'full' backup each and every time. To do this I am in the habit of 'deleting' the old backup ready for the new one. Whether Microsoft have improved the backup in Windows 7 i'm not sure (I will have to try it), but I found that when I directed the a new full backup to my removable drive Complete PC Backup simply kept telling me the drive was full, therfore it could not do a full backup. I found that really strange considering I had completely deleted the previous backup and computer management and windows explorer were telling me that the partition was completely empty. After dozens of compuer restarts and attempts at backing up again I just gave up. Backups shouldn't be that difficult, hence my recommendation of Acronis True Image. Sadly Complete PC backup is useless compared with Acronis.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

When you "deleted" the old backup, did you format the disk? Actually, you don't have to delete the previous backup because Vista will make room for your new backup by deleting an older backup if necessary. I have been doing a complete backup periodically and Vista will make room if necessary. Now, I haven't had to restore a backup, but I did read a review of Vista when it first came out and the reviewer tested the backup and restore feature. According to what that reviewer wrote, he restored the complete backup without any problem.
