Command Line Question
I have a Motion Tablet LS800 that runs super hot and I thought I'd disable some settings to see if that would make a difference and so I brought up the Configuration Utility and mistakenly unchecked all the services and start-ups and so now when the tablet boots to the desktop the touch pen doesn't work. The problem with this is that the Config Utility comes back up as always reminding you of the changes you made. I need to re-enable those services but the touch pen (non-touch screen) doesn't work and so I cant hit the OK button to make the Config Utility go away. In essence I'm locked out. I can boot to a command prompt. Is there any way of re-enabling those service that I unchecked, without having to be in Windows, thereby re-enabling the touch pen's capability? Can I do it from a command prompt? The selections on the services tab need to be re-enabled and those under the start-up tab. I've been told that I should just use the restore disks and boot from ext. DVD drive and restore the OS. I wanted to check first before do anything that drastic. Thank you.1 person needs an answerI do too

If you plug in a USB keyboard, will that work? Then when the Config Utility reminder comes up, you can undo your previous choices. My guess is that your overheating is not caused by services, etc., that are running, but by poor air circulation. If the tablet is more than a few months old and has been in any environment other than a decent climate-controlled area, it has pick up dust, lint, etc. from the surroundings. I don't know how hard it is to take the back off it, or if it has removable panels, but cleaning it would be a good place to start. If you don't have a manual for it any more, here's a download of it:http://www.motioncomputing.com/support/support_documentation.aspSC Tom-There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

Thank you for the quick response! Yes, I did try a Targus usb keyboard and yes, it would work when I booted to a command prompt but it would not work when I booted into safe mode and it would not work using the tab key or windows key when I booted to the desktop. Thanks for the link to the motion info, very helpful!

If you can boot to a command prompt, try this:Type c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press enter. If it works, it will bring up the System Restore GUI and hopefully will allow you to navigate to a restore point just before you made the changes. If not with the keyboard, then maybe with the navigation buttons on the side of the tablet, or maybe even a USB mouse.Of course, this all assumes that System Restore wasn't one of the services disabled.SC Tom-There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.
