Hi, I have come into work this morning after the weekend only to find my system (Windows 7 Pro) can no longer check for updates. When I manually press the 'Check for updates' button it returns with the error message 'An error occurred while checking for new updates for you computer' Error(s) found: Code 800B0001 Windows Update encountered an unkown error. I've searched on the web for a resolution to this, but nothing I have tried works. I must point out that this is on a system which worked perfectly well on Friday, but an update happened at the weekend which involved my computer auto restarting and since then I have had an error. Anyone have any pointers?

An MGADiag report may shed some light on the matter... we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ) Once saved, run the tool. Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report. Bother! - I was hoping it would show a specific error set, but it's perfectly fine. The usual reason for the error code is an unregistered dll, or a broken certificate. This can be caused by protection mechanisms in security software What AV are you using? what other security software is running? Lol, thought you were going to say that. It's never easy where I'm concerned. I've re-registered several dll files (as found on web), I've used the Microsoft System Update Readiness Tool, still got the issue. Noel, Tried that, still the automatic updates fail. However, I am able to force a manual update but then again I was able to do that in the first place.
