Code 52 on driver for IDT High Definition Audio Codec (No Audio Output Device)
Since August 10-11 Windows has been giving me a hard time with audio drivers. The problem occurred shortly after the August Patch Tuesday where updates were applied. I keep getting Code 52 in the device manager : windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. The drivers used to work fine until then. Computer is a Dell E4310 Laptop running Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit SP1 with all the latest updates. Computer is in a domain environment, but is exempt from WSUS, all updates were obtained from Microsoft. I have tried the following: Uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and deleting the device and it's drivers from device manager before reinstalling. Tested sound card using Dell Diagnostic Utility, sound card works. Uninstalling Windows Updates from the 11th of August, Office updates were not removed. Installed previous versions of the driver, all the way back to drivers dating from 2007. Using system restore to revert to an earlier state. (Earlyest possible was August 11). All these steps failed to get the sound card working again. Any help would be appreiciated. Thank you!

Hello, and thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the problem persists. The drivers install correctly but still give me a code 52 in device manager. I have also been working with Dell to try and resolve the issue, but they are just as baffled as I am.

Hi, Now, please use Sigverif.exe to check the unsigned device drivers. 1. Click Start Menu, then type sigverif.exe. 2. Click sigverif.exe which is listed in the Program list. 3. Hit start to verify the drivers, when it finishs, click Advanced=>View Log. If the sound card driver is unsigned, you may rename these files, then try to reinstall the driver again. If the issue still happen, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer to ask for a signed driver for this kind of issue. Thanks for understanding. Hi, I am sorry for the delay in reply, but unfortunately access to that computer is difficult as it is used on the road often. I ran the sigverif.exe application, here is a screenshot of the result : As you can see, none of the audio drivers are listed. When installing drivers for the audio device manually via the device manager, I usually get the same code 52 error. On the second IDT HD audio device, I get the following error : "The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device". I have tried installing previous versions of the driver, both from the website you provided and with Dell tech support, but the problem persists. Sorry again for the delay in response, and thank you for all your help so far.

Hi, I suggest you to rename all the files, and then try to install the driver again. If it still does not help, please go to C:\WINDOWS\INF\setupapi.dev.log and upload it to Skydrive. This log contains information about Plug and Play devices and driver installation. Additionally, you may take a look at the thread below to set a built-in driver for device first, then try to install the driver again to see whether it makes any difference. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
