Clicked on a bad link from my hotmail account
I received an email from someone I know which contained a link to a site on sites.google.com and I clicked on it. I saw ads on viagra etc. on this link and then I talked to the sender. She told me that her PC got infected and her email account had been hacked into, so the email was not sent by her. I immediately changed my password on my hotmail account and scanned my PC (with F-Prot) which returned nothing. Is this enough? I recall reading on the news about a lady clicking on a link from her email and later on her bank accounts got hacked into. I use my PC for online banking and my hotmail account contains sensitive information so I just wanted to be sure. Many thanks!1 person got this answerI do too

No, it isn't enough. Be more proactive and at least go through the preparatory work and scanning with MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware as described here: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware You might also find these links about staying safe on the Internet useful: http://www.getsafeonline.org/ https://www.mysecurecyberspace.com/ http://www.getnetwise.org/ http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/staying-safe.pdfMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Thanks a lot Malkeleah for the info. So regarding my hotmail account I should only need to change my password to prevent anything bad happening as a result of my clicking that bad link? Unfortunately it's a work computer so I cannot use any of the free scanners. I will see if I can find any scanner that's free for commercial use. Thank you!

You can use MBAM. If you're worried about compliance, uninstall it when you're done. Certainly you should change your Hotmail password as a sensible precaution.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
