Chkdsk problem
When I boot my XP Professional computer it automatically starts the Chkdsk program. After scanning it finds an error in "index $0 for file 25" It then deletes that section and tries to insert a file in $0 for index 25. It then repeats this command until I turn off the computer. I can only reboot it if I cancel the chkdsk process.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi Bob, I seems some of the system files are corrupt and you need to allow the chkdsk to complete the task. If the task is not completed, it would prompt and run chkdsk on every restart. I would suggest you to run the “chkdsk /f /r” command from command prompt and check it helps you complete running the chkdsk and fix the errors. Acess the link below and follow the steps in the article to run the chkdsk task.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 You may also access the link below and follow the steps to fix chkdsk running when you restart the computer.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831426 Hope this helps. Hi Srinivas, Thank you for your response. The problem is that chkdsk will only run upon restarting the computer. Then it goes through the process of Verifying, Sorting, Deleting the entry for the problem file (Index $0 for File 25). But when it tries to insert an entry into Index $0 for File 25, it continues to try the entry repeatedly, over and over. I have left it doing this for a number of minutes, and it makes hundreds of attempts, but it never completes. I have to shut down the computer and restart it (canceling the scan) to get it to work. Another problem that occurred at about the time this (automatically trying chkdsk on startup) did is that my computer would not recover from Hibernating. It said something like "failed to recover files" and I had to reboot. I have run a third party scan of my disc drive and it indicated no bad sectors. So I assume my system has been corrupted in some way.My OS is XP Pro SP3.Any suggestions? Thanke, Bob
