Check disk (chkdsk) runs nearly every boot and fixes errors, brand new hardware, long DST - PASSED
Hi Guys, This is my first time posting as I can't seem to find anyone with the same issue as I do. I have recently built a brand new system with the following hardware/software: Win7 home premium 64 Office 2010 Home & Student LG Blu-ray Burner ASUS AMD Radeon 5450 1GB Intel corei5 2300 Kingston 4x2GB sticks Gigabyte GA-H67MA-D2H WD Blue 1TB Digital Now TV Dual Hybrid 7164 PCIe Coolermaster Extreme Power+ 500w Antec 300 24” 5ms Acer V243HLBD LED Monitor I installed windows, drivers and updates and re booted. I then installed more updates and and rebooted again. I then had check disk pop up on boot (which was strange as i've never had this witha new system build) and it was fixing quite a few issues. I immediatly presumed it was a faulty HDD so I ran a WD long DST which passed. I then ran Memtest 86 which also passed. I am now really confused as it keeps running check disk every 2nd or 3rd boot and repairs errors. Does anyone have any Idea what it could be? Could it possibly be the sandy bridge CPU? (i'm only using 2 SATA3 ports for HDD and Optical) Any ideas whould be awesome. Thanks, Alex

Hi, Of course be sure to check all cables and ensure everything is seated properly. Check the BIOS settings for the hard drives. There has been an issue with the Sandy Bridge chipset though I thought it was only with the i7. For even better and more efficient checking : (running from a Windows disk is more efficient and will often detect an error that otherwise was not found.) From the Command Prompt of the Recovery Console (if you have one) or from a Vista/Windows 7 disk - if you do not have a Vista/Windows 7 disk you can borrow a friend's (it needs to be same 32 or 64 bit and they are not copy protected) or make one. Also your System maker will sell the physical disks cheap since you already own Windows. chkdsk /f /r REBOOT Space after k and before / and after f and before / sfc /scannow REBOOT Space after c and before / How to Boot to the System Recovery Options in Windows 7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html What are the system recovery options in Windows 7? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Go into Setup/Settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 as you boot so watch screen as you startup. Hi Alex, Click Start, input msconfig, on the Startup Tab, if Chkdsk is in the list, uncheck it. If it doesn't work, follow the steps below: 1. Click Start, input cmd in the search box, run it as administrator. 2. In the command prompt, input: fsutil dirty query c: 3. If it returns the message that the volume is dirty, please input chkdsk c: /f /x 4. Then input: fsutil dirty query c: again. 5. If it returns that the volume is not dirty then you can reboot with no more chkdsk.
