Changing the default settings for remote desktop
by default, when i connect to windows7 via rdp, it's limited to a 16bit desktop, and no background allowed. is there a way to change the default settings for it?

Yes, open the Remote Desktop client and click on Options > Display . Modify as needed. You can save to the default file by clicking on Save or if you Save As to a specific host/server customized .rdp file.MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"

that's not what i meant.the computer with windows7 is the host. when i connect to it with a thin client set to 24bpp it reverts to 16bpp, which is the default cap. in server 2003 and 2008, there's a control applet to change those settings. i want to know if in windows7 there's an .ini file or a registry that can be modified to achieve similar results

Does the client you're using support 24-bit? I know some computers/monitors/graphics cards only support 16 or 32 bit color. -Nick
