Hi, I'm running Vista Home Premium on my Dell laptop and I was wondering ifanyonewould be so kind totell me how to change my default TTL. I wasted 2 hours searching the registry (regedit) and couldn't find the option anywhere. Thanks in advance, Ilir

Hi Ilir_R, Thank you for the post. Would you please help to confirm what TTL value you are going to change? The DNS Resolver Cache? I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi Ilir_R, We can modify the registry value DefaultTTL using the following steps: ================== 1. Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe). 2. From the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following key:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters. 3. In the right pane, add the following value:Name: DefaultTTLType: REG_DWORDValid Range: 1-255 4. After that, please restart the computer and check the result. Hope it helps. Silly me... I already tried adding the parameter myself, but didn't think that it's neccesary to restart my computer... I'm used to working on XP Pro SP2 and on XP all I had to do was to change the parameters and the were applied immedialtely (no need to restart)... Thnx a lot, this sure resolved the prob.

That's great -- thanks for the information -- but what does the value measure? Are those milliseconds? minutes? Why didn't a Registry Key already exist? What's the default if the key didn't exist?
