Changes to files in an offline folder aren't synchronised when online
In the event viewer, are you checking in the Windows Logs or under Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Offline Files\Operational Log? It'll be an Event ID 1004 in there if it's anything to do with Slow link detection?

Hello, I am experiencing a problem with Offline files. Here is what happens. I have a laptop running Windows 7 SP1, connected through my work network to a server (running SBS 2003 SP2) and shared folders. I have put some of these shared folders offline, so that I can work when from home and disconnected. This works well (files are effectively put offline and synchronised when back). Some problems are however happening when I am working online, in the office. The problem: I open a file on the server (this has happened using Word and Excel files so far - I am using Office 2003, all up-to-date), do some changes, save and close. Everything seems normal. However when someone else opens the file from the server, my changes are not visible - meaning that the changes haven't been saved. If I do a synchronisation, it doesn't save the changes either. The only thing that seems to work is to right-click on the file, and manually synchronise this file only. It happens irregularly and I haven't found steps which definitely reproduce (or don't reproduce) this problem. Note that I do not get any message from the Sync Centre or anywhere else - the only way I know there is a problem, is by having a colleague tell me (s)he can't see my changes. What it could be caused by: I have investigated possibilities. Some people suggested it could be caused by "Slow link mode", however 1) The Event viewer doesn't show Offline files going into this mode, and 2) I have deactivated Slow link mode, using group policies, and it hasn't solved it. I have also tried to activate and deactivate explicitly "Transparent caching", without success. There was no disconnect from the server as far as I can tell (looking at logs and so on), Explorer tells me I am working "online" all the time. This issue is becoming extremely frustrating, as basically I am not alerted of the problem, and it prevents working with others. The only "fix" I have found is to de-activate offline files - but this is not practical as I travel lots. Any suggestion would be most welcome. Thank you! Remi

Hi, thanks for replying. No, none of that, this log only has successful logins / logoffs (events 7 and 8), successful background synchronisations every few hours (event 1002), and the service starting normally (event 1). That's it. I have set the logging to the maximum. By the way, I should say this issue was here with Windows 7 (without SP), but is still here after installing SP1. Thanks. Rémi

Hi, You can refer to this:http://www.vistax64.com/sbs-server/275505-offline-files-windows-7-sbs-2003-a.html , try to reset the offline files to check if it works. Hi, I tried re-creating the Offline folders database (using the registry setting as indicated) some time ago, as I found this indicated as a possibility on many forums, and that didn't work. It is also not a space issue (I am using about 5GB out of 68 GB as a limit, and disk space available is > 200 GB). Thanks, RémiRmi

Having the same exact issue. Any update on a possible solution? Will be installing Win7 SP1 soon to see if there is a fix there.

Hi, I have switched to Office 2010 about a month ago, and haven't had any issues since then. Given that the issue is hard to reproduce systematically, I wouldn't count this as a solution, but it may have been due to Office 2003 and its different way of handling temporary files and lock files. Hope this helps.Rmi
