Changed executable won't run on Vista box.
Posting to this forum as a wild guess. Application written in VB6 and packaged with Installshield 4. I provide updates from the website that don't use an installer ie. updated executable. I have one Vista user that is unable to run an updated executable. The box just beeps and sits there, no error message. Restoring the original .exe allows it to run. Antivirus has been temporarily removed on the machine. The user is logged in on an Administrator account. I thought this might be a DEP issue but it, apparently, is not. I have Vista on a development machine and am unable to replicate the issue. I'm assuming there must be something in Vista security that is preventing this program from running and would be extremely grateful to know what that might be. Thanks for any ideas.

Hi, Thank you for the post. I would like to confirm whether the application is developed by you. If so, please submit the issue to our MSDN Forum. The support professionals there are better equipped to assist you. MSDN Forum http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/default.aspx?siteid=1 If not, please try the steps in the following KB article for troubleshooting: Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/931362/ Please understand that we are not quite familiar with third party application and thus may not be the best resource to troubleshoot the issue. If the methods in the KB cannot resolve the issue, I suggest contacting the program manufacturer to identify the issue so that it can be resolved more efficiently. If there is anything further we can do, please update us here. We are glad to be of additional assistance. Thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
