Change Start Menu Power Button default behaviour
If I right click the start button, select properties, and the start menu tab, I can change the behaviour of the start menu power button to log off, instead of shutdown which is the default behaviour. I would like to do this with domain group policies. This is what i've noticed. If I open group policiy object editor for a local machine, under USER CONFIGURATION, ADMIN TEMPLATES, START MENU AND TASKBAR. There's a local GPO setting called ' Change Start Menu Power Button. But if I open GPMC.MSC on a windows 7 machine and browse to the OU where I want to apply this policy, there is no change start menu power button option. How can I change this setting using a GPO or registry entry, on all windows 7 computers in my domain ( 600+) wihtout visiting every computer and applying the local GPO setting? Also I've tried the remove and prevent access to the shutdown button setting, which works, but then users can't shutdown the computers, I only want to change the default startmenu power button behaviour from shut down to log off. XCan someone please help me.

Hi, According the issue, I want to know the system of your DC, Windows sever 2008 R2 or Windows 2008 or any previous version? You may use this feature at least in Windows Server 2008 R2. If you use Windows 2008 R2, you may find this option in User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar. If you are not using Windows Server 2008 R2, you may try to customize it by registry. The key is HKU\SID\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Start_PowerButtonAction. For more information, please access Windows Sever Group Policy forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/winserverGP/threads Hope that helpsPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. The DC is windows server 2003 R2 Enterprise, but I should still be able to configure this setting from a windows 7 workstation with the server 2008 adminpak installed. HKU\SID\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Start_PowerButtonAction is the current user power button action, I want to be able to do this for ALL users logging onto windows 7 machines. As I said in my original post, I can see the setting on a windows 7 michines local group policy when I run gpedit.msc but on a domain GPO the same setting is not available, I've copied the admx files to the central store, but still no setting. I can't believe that it's not available for domain group policies, but is for local computer group policies. Do I need a windows server 2008 DC to acheive this, I was under the impression it would still work on a 2003 domain, if the policy was applied from a server 2008 or windows 7 machine.
