Certificates - how do I ensure I have the latest version?
I am new to Vista Home premium and I have noticed a lot more issues with certificates. As my limited understanding goes, certificates help ensure you have the "right" stuff. But I have looked at the certificate snap-in and am thoroughly confused. Many of the certificates had expired and I no idea what should or should not be in there. The help screens I found weren't too helpful. For example, the help screen would say to go to action, all tasks, and then the something like the new certificate request wizard. Well, the closest thing I have is find certificates. Not quite the same. Since this is a Home version I don't have any good ways of getting into policy making. or haven't found a way. But I did find certutil which I think will allow a person to make some of the necessary modifications. Bottom line: I would like to be ensured that my machine is always on the lookout for new certificates and I suspect that there is a setting somewhere about that. And how do I renew those expired certificates or do I really care about them? And can somebody explain to me (simple English, please) why I am getting so many certificate issues while browsing on the 'Net? Thanks for reading and have a good day.Richard

Hi Richard, I consider that you do not need to worry about renewal of certificates especially it is a standalone computer in a non-domain environment and it does not affect the normal usage of the system. For detailed information, you can also check the following KB article. Description of Digital Certificates http://support.microsoft.com/kb/195724 Hope this helps!Sean Zhu - MSFT
