Certain folder is very slow when loading and modifying in File Explorer

Hi!

Recently a folder has been giving me some trouble. I use this folder essentially as a documents folder where programs can't put their trash, so it has a lot of files in it. Now, when I try to load the folder, or any folders within it, it takes about 10 seconds to load. Also, when I try to paste a file in, cut something into the folder, create a new folder, create a new file, rename a file, etc, it takes a good 10 - 20 seconds. Here is what I have tried to fix this issue:

  • Removing from indexing
  • Deleting unused files
  • Disabling non-Microsoft shell extensions using ShellExViewer
  • Disabling all non-Microsoft services in msconfig
  • Rebooting
  • Checking if the folder was set to optimize for "General Files" (it was)
  • Defragmenting disk
  • Scanning disk for errors (there were none)

All to no avail. I should note that it is only File Explorer that is having this issue. Programs such as WinRar have no issues modifying the folder or folders inside, so I doubt it's an HDD issue.

Also I have 118 GB of space available on my hard drive out of 500GB, so I'm not low on space.

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm now noticing that all folders are very slow when loading in File Explorer, however, that one folder mentioned before is still the only one having trouble when creating documents, moving them, etc. Folders still load fine in WinRar and other programs have no problem accessing them.
