Can´t see between W7 and Xp sp3 throgh network
hello, my network is configured... PC with W7 64 bits ---- wifi ---- router laptop xp sp3 32 bits ---- ethernet --- routeri have configured the workgroup in my pc with w7 like i had before (and still have xp in this pc in another partition working ok) but the 2 machines cant see to each other. both can access internet perfectly, and both "see" the other with the ping command but only using the command with the ip, with the computers name doesnt work. i read all the posts in this forum (yes, the 20 pages) relating more or less same problem and tried everything i found... but still on the same.... any ideas?? thanks in adv.

Hi, when you say that your other partition is working OK do you mean that when both machines are running XP they can see each other on the network? Also when you are using both machines with XP can you ping them by name while using your router and having one machine on eathernet and one using WiFi?

exactly, with the 2 machines in xp they can see to each other, and have normal traffic between shared folders. in fact i did not tested ping in this situation as no problems in that configuration... but just in case igoing to restart now in xp and test... im sure it will work ok, as no problems up to now....

During the installation of W7 you were asked if the machine is on a public or home network. If you chose home network you then get "homegroup password" that you can use when sharing information between machine. It tells you to save this. If you didn't you can find at in your control panel. Open Control Panel => Under Network and Internet GO to Choose Homegroup and sharing option => towards the bottom you will see "View or print the homegroup password" Follow the steps from there. I am of course assuming thatyour XP and W7 machines are in the same Workgroup

yes they are in the same workgroup... but now i fixed !!!!!! im feeling like a fool now....what happened is that as i use the laptop to capture the tv signal coming throuh adsl, there i have and ip like 10.123.135.159 and in the advance properties i added the normal ip 192.168.1.33 style, but apparently mi pc with w7 was not able to connect to the other machine as the normal ip was "secondary". now i added in w7 a second ip number (and rest of data) pointing to the other range anda now... is going perfect!!! im sorry if my explanation is not good but my english is far away from perfect....pfff, now im almost happy.... thanks a lot Botic for your assistance, you made me shake my brains a little and the solution came....
