Cant use domain login for Windows XP Mode - Already in Administrators group
I work at a Service Desk for a medium-size company, and I am lucky enough to be allowed to use Windows 7 Enterprise as one of our "Beta Testers," to see how things work in our network. I just set up Windows XP Mode so I can use IE6, due to some compatibility issues with IE8 for our ticketing system (Resolution is in the works, but i need something in the mean time.) I was able to get the VM up and running, logged in locally, renamed the system to follow our naming convention and added it to the domain successfully. I was even able to move the computer account in Active Directory out of the "Computers" container to a more suitable location. I renamed the local admin account (Default is XPMUser) to our company default as well. I restarted the system, logged in and added myself to the Administrators group. I was able to log in successfully under my own name, installed a program and rebooted. It *did* crash at this point and i was forced to use a "power off" on the VM as i could not bring it back up. However, after doing this, I am suddenly unable to log in with the local account, as well as my own account. I can choose my domain properly, but i can not log in except with a Domain Admin account. I am also unable to log in with the local account. I have a screen capture of the login failure if anyone wishes to see it. I have checked the administrators group both after logging in with a Domain Admin account and by Remote Management. I am in both as my exact account as well as via our Helpdesk AD group that gives me local admin rights on machines. Both the domain account AND the local account give the same error text: "The Local Policy of this does not allow you to log on interactively."Can anyone tell me what i could be missing? P.S. I tried adding myself to the "Remote Desktop Users" group too, but that didnt help either. EDIT: After disabling the "Enable Integration Features" function, I was able to log in successfully! However, attempting to re-enable this feature presents me with a login screen and the same problem. Can someone advise me as to what I am missing here?

(Sorry, I'm new to the Microsoft forums and i havent figured out how to send a direct reply to people yet) Those threads were useful, but unfortunately told me things that I was mostly already aware of. IMPORTANT: The problem ONLY OCCURS when enabling the Integration Features. If i disable it by default, I can log in as myself on the VM properly. When i attempt to enable it from the "Tools" menu, it brings up a login window where i enter my credentials, but it will not take the local admin login, my personal login (I AM in the Administrators group, both individually and as a member of an AD Security group in the Local Administrators group), or the "extra" local administrator account i created to test this out. The ONLY account that i can log in with at this stage is my Domain Admin account, which I'm not supposed to be using, especially for something this "trivial." I dont actually need to run the VM itself - the end goal is to allow me to run IE6 and IE8 concurrently, as i can't use our ticketing system in IE8. However, when i try to run the published application in Win7, i get the same issue outlined above - unable to log in with any account aside from my domain admin. Even the local accounts give me a message saying that Interactive Login is not possible.I'm willing to just remove the computer from our domain if i can run the IE6 with proper NTLM authentication (our ticketing system uses an auto-login, so running it under any account credentials other than my own will not help me much.). Any thoughts?

You should reply to the forum, notthe individual.-- Ken BlakePlease Reply to the NewsgroupKen Blake

sounds like the profiles have crashed somehow, I wouldn't remove it from the domain as that seems to be the login that works, but if you login with the domain admin can you remove the domain users group and any profiles that are on the VM, I 'm thinking if you clean out all the profiles on the local vm, then you could recreate?

Thank you for the help - I ended up removing the computer from the domain and now i can run the IE6 browser properly in Windows 7. It doesnt explain what caused the problem, but at this point i have sunk enough time and energy into the matter that I am not longer interested in the cause, only a resolution. If anyone has additional questions about this for their own reasons, please feel free to let me know. Thank you for the support!
