This problem is often caused by corrupt RAM or even the RAM's contacts need cleaning. This is esepcially true for older computers. The issue can also be caused by malware. If cleaning the RAM, as well as the contact points within the RAM slot, do not solve the issue try downloading, updating and running a full scan with Malwarebytes. Finally, check your BIOS settings to make sure power management (ACPI) is enabled and check to see if it allows you to let the OS manage the settings (in BIOS). These are by no means to be considered exhaustive. We all know computers sometimes come alive with minds of their own.Malwarebytes.orgRegards,JoelFree computer support and diagnostics -->> http://repairbotsonline.forumotion.com/

Thanks for the reply JoelThe malwarebytes scan came up clean, as for your other suggestions they are a little beyond my capabilities, I will have to try to get someone to help me. When you say clean the RAM, can this be done with a scan of some sorts?.....Jane.

Cleaning the RAM cannot be done with a scan. However, if you suspect the RAM may be faulty or failing there is a test you can run. If you would like instructions on how to perform the test please let me know. As for the BIOS, if you are not comfortable with this type of thing I would recommend you get assistance as you said.Regards,JoelFree computer support and diagnostics -->> http://repairbotsonline.forumotion.com/
