You are not really saying much here.Is it your LAPTOP which is the issue and are you talking about wireless???Did you check device manager to see if the drivers are loaded?

Hi xXxIcy,Are the Lan card's led lights working when you plug in ethernet cable. If no, you might have a faulty card.If they are working. Check device manager - network adapter - yourname card is there an X or Unknown device.Check computer manual or motherboards website for the make of Lan device.Tryfrom device manager. right clicking lan card or unknown device-update driver - browse my computer for driver software-Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -untick show compatiable hardwarePut the name of card maker and details( ie. Marvell - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller. )Slan go foill, Paul

Yes i have checked device manager, ive tried disabling, and then enabling the Network wireless adapter, as well as uninstalling and having win 7 reinstall it. Wireless use to work on XP when i had it installed on the laptop, and now it does not on Win 7. The Ethernet LEDs on my laptop do work. Theres no Xs or ?s or !s near the cards listing and its name is Atheros AR500G Wireless Network Adapter. Not to sure what you mean when you say check the make of the adapter, unless if what your asking for the name. I've already updated it by my self, and thats when i uninstalled it and had Win7 update it for me. Anyways, thanks for the help, i appreciate it! :D

Hi xXxIcy, In Your firstpost Ithought you were writing about the desktop.

xXxIcEy , "I can not connect to my router after installing win 7. I can how ever connect if i unplug my desktops ethernet cable and plug it into my laptop." Here are my suggestions: 1. Did you check the manufactures website for lan drivers specific for windows 7? If not, do so. Just because you updated them doesn't mean it's an update that will address your problem. 2. I ask that you check the manufacture website of the router if there is a firmware update that may address your problem. 3. Do you get a yellow triangle or a red "X" on the lower right corner of the screen? It would be located where the Network icon is located. If so try the following: -type CMD in the search box -right click on CMD and use "Run as Admin" - at the dos prompt type ipconfig /release and watch the network icon. It should go from a red "X" to a blue circle. -Once you see the blue circle type ipconfig /renew. Wait about 20 seconds as it should go from a blue circle to a yellow triangle. The triangle may or may not disappear. Now try to open up your web browser to see if it works or not. "I also updated my drivers on my laptop. I've tried practically everything google pops up with but nothin has worked, i have nooo idea what to do...=(" So you updated both your computer and your laptop. Also check windows 7 updates to see if there is a newer driver for the computer not working (IE: see if the date of that driver is more recent then other). It's not clear if your updated from the manufacture or from MS. So please look into this.

Okay, ill check those in a little bit, but as i said before, there were no !s, circles, or anything such as that near the listing of my network adapter. Note: I AM talking about my laptop, i am not talking about my desktop..My desktop has full connectivity to the internet, and if i take the ethernet cable out of my desktop, and connect it to my laptop, i get access to the internet, but I can not obtain it wirelessly which I previously could. Thanks guys >< sorry for the misunderstandings

They would have to disconnect the lan cable from the laptop first when booting up. Once it's booted up re-connect the lan cable or else they would get no internet. You wouldn't happen to have a Acer laptop would you? In a situation like that you will need to check to see if there is a bios update. Furthermore, the laptop may comes with it's own power managment program similar to Acer which for them is called Acer ePerformance Management, eSettings Management, eNet Management or ePower Management which can disable the lan (in the case with Acer laptop). Check to see if you also have such a program that can control your hardware.

one other thing to try.....does the laptop have a physical switch to turn the wireless on and off....mine does....if the switch is off it would do exactly as you describe....some models have a function switch ( hold down the function button and turn on or off, usually a different color on the keyboard)

Okay well the routers firmware is up to date. And i made a mistake, the name of the card is Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter, and i can not find any updates on the website, I read though that you can roll back your driver to a previous version, and it may fix it, however, i do not have anything to roll back to, nor can i find a place that has these downloads I currently have Version: 8.0.0.238 If ya could help me find a dif ver thatd be great guys >< Thanks!

Does your laptop come with some sort of power management program(s) that may turn the lan off (even though Vista/Win7 also offer power management functionality)? I take it that you also checked the properties of the lan device itself just to make sure that it's enabled (IE: Device Manager)? Also check to see if their is a green light that is on next to the cat. cable that connects to laptop when the laptop is on and at desktop. If it's on and the light is green and you still cannot connect to the internet then it maybe a software issue (driver update for example). However, if there is no light at all and you know there is suppose to be a green light on right next to the cat. cable then there maybe a bios or other hardware issue (IE: you may need to update the bios of your laptop for example). Last but not least, make sure that your router detects your laptop. Your router should provide some sort of feature that lets your know who's connected either using the front panel with a led indicator and/or from within the router when you type 168.xx.x.x.

I found this site: Download Atheros AR5005G Wireless and it has a Windows 7 32 and 64 bit driver listed. The versions seems much older than what you have though. Take alook. 7ywc52ww.exe Windows 7 x32 1.0.0.86 WLan_XB63%20T60H976.zip Windows 7 x64 7.6.0.239 Rich
