Cant add Windows 7 to Windows 2K3 domain
Hello Everybody, I can not add my Windows 7 machine to a 2k3 domain. I was wondering if there was anything in the registry or gpedit that could prevent that from happening.

1. You should specify DNS value correctly. It points to DNS that contains active directory resource records. There should be NO public DNS in the list of TCP/IP specification. Would you publish ipconfig /all here? 2. Try to disable local firewall on W 7. 3. Are there any traces in event logs? 4. Force SMB version to 1 and disable autotuning. 5. Analyze network traffic and display your findings here or upload traffic logs to SkyDrive or similat cloud repository. Regards Milos

Hi, Firstly, I would like to check whether any error message was received when trying to join the domain? If so, please post the error message here for research. Usually, the issue can occur by incorrect DNS settings. Please disable the firewall, assign a static IP address and DNS address on the machine, and then join to the domain again. Before we proceed, I would like to let you know some general router IP addresses. In most cases, the router address is 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.18.1. If we know the IP address of the router, please perform the following steps. 1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties". 3. Click Continue to verify the administrator permission. 4. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties". 5. Select use the following IP address. Manually set IP address (For example, if your router IP address is 192.168.1.1, we can type the IP address as 192.168.1.111. If the router IP address is 192.168.0.1, we should type in 192.168.0.111.) Manually set Subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 (Note: We can use this address as the default subnet mask.) Manually set Default gateway (Note: Default gateway is the IP address of the router.) Manually set preferred DNS server (Note: Preferred DNS server is also the address of the router.) 6. Click OK. Hope this helps. Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support
