Cannot uninstall option updates from windows update on 7 RC
First of all, My computer is an Acer Aspire 5100-5455 laptop, with an ATI Radeon 1100 Graphics card. It has worked perfectly in the past, with Windows 7 RC, and since i installed an "optional update" with Windows Update, the display will not work. I am using an external monitor right now. I was wanting to know: How can I uninstall optional updates that do NOT show up as "installed updates"????!!!! I have tried to roll-back the driver that it installed which was something like: "Silicon Image ATI ATA etc... etc..." - with no such luck. Please help!!! Anybody?!

Hello there TGB,A couple points on your question, one way to see updates that you aren't seeing in the installed updates list is to restore hidden updates althought this really doesn't sound like the case to me. It sounds more of a driver issue as you said, but I'm slightly confused, generally Silicon Images drivers are forHDD's and RAID and not video. I would like more information on that driver if possible, but if all else fails you can go to the Backup and Restore Center and use System Restore to undo the changes that made your display stop working. Hope any of these suggestions are helpfull.

Well, I used to be able to see this particular device in the "Device Manager", but now it will not show up, and the Display is running again... but I didn't change anything. The display just started working again about a day after this issue occurred. It isn't a problem with the LCD inverter, or anything like that, but rather an issue with ATI Radeon 1100.... it has had compatibility issues with virtually all operating systems i have tried. Linux, SUN, Mac, Windows XP, Vista, & 7 RC... A bit of advice: Never buy Acer products. There is almost always a risk of something going wrong from the beginning. Things that do not work correctly (or not at all) on my Acer Aspire 5100-5455: Disc drive Touchpad Keyboard Display Drivers Card Reader Bluetooth Line-in audio & it gets EXTREMELY hot. All the more reasons to go with another company.

Hello TGB,Im glad to hear your display is working again. With all of those devices not working and extreme heat it could be worth your while to see if there is an underlying hardware issue. Maybe a fan or fan controller is broken and excessive heat could cause any number of hardware to stop working or break all together.

Well thank you for trying to help with my crappy computer :) I guess I am all set... Ever since i bought the computer, it has been very hot... but the fan works and all, but i guess Acer needs to rethink their designs for airflow. For instance: My parents bought an Acer Desktop computer. It is pretty nice, but the only fan they installed for it, was a CPU fan, and there was a funnel-type of device that pushed the air directly from the CPU to the vent on the side of the chassis. The one problem with that design: No airflow for the rest of the computer!. I installed the "Fan Speed" Application, and it was reading over 210 F in 3 places!!!!!!... but the CPU was nice and cool =D Well, I am going to be on my way, and keep testing all i can with 7 RC, and try to find some bugs. Take care everyone!

... but the CPU was nice and cool =D < Off Topic >A long time ago, there was a cpu-cooler called Ice Cap (or something like that). It was extremely effective, using solid-state thermoelectric refrigeration technology. So efficient, condensation occurred and the system board deteriorated within a few months of installation. They must've tested it in a desert. LOL !</ Off Topic >

I had a simlar thing happen. This is my 4th install, and EVERY install (2 different disks) Update manager had problems. It either would not start, or would hang forever. Is MS actually offering anything other than Windows Defender updates to fix or address any issues that people are having? I bought this unit a month ago, (HP G50-133us) and there are SEVERAL issues which have appeared over EVERY install. I realize this is a Beta and there are bound to be issues, but this is begining to look like Vista Debarcle Part 2. It does not shut down cleanly, notification icons appear and disappear, it develops problems booting, update manger fails (pitty the fool is using it as his everyday OS), IE8 is buggy, there is no way to provide feedback to MS that is easy to use, diagnostic tools don't see some problems. Come'n guys. I have the RC installed on 2 laptops. One one is it sweet, has run flawless so far. The other has seen 4, count them 4 re-installs. EACH ONE BUGGY.Reformat and reinstall is like a mantra for most problems. Most are minor issues,: it's like having a flat tire and being told by the mechanic the ONLY way to fix it is too rebuild the car!!!Sure, SOMETIMES it is the only way, but what the ____!!With a 50 % failure rate I won't recomend this to ANY of my customers, esp in mission critical positions.Would you buy a car from someone who promised to fix it AFTER you bought it??? (SP1 will fix it). I don't think so.
