Cannot turn off biometrics
I cannot turn off biometrics in W8 If I go to Change biometrics settings and select  (*) Biometrics off and push [Save Changes] I get message: "There was a failure while saving your settings. You may not have permission to change the settings or you are currently using a remote connection" I'm administrator working locally... Any ideas? Thanks

Hi,

Please check whether you have disabled the policy Allow use of Biometrics.

Just a try: Sometime it does not suffice to work as Administrator. There is higher level, namely the priviledged or elevated. Really "killing" procedure is based on Scheduled Task with Priviledged and SYSTEM account. Be careful to use the latter.

I'm sorry I don't understand which policy do you mean.

My issue is, that I cannot turn off biometric in "Biometric Devices | Change Biometric Settings"

Which setting should I check? Where?

Thanks

Hi,

I think the cause is the changed setting cannot be saved to somewhere. You may try using Process Monitor to obeserve the denied actions when saving the change.

In addition, the policy I mentioned above can turn off Biometric by Group Policy. If you really want to turn off Biometrics device, disable this policy under Computer Confguration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Biometrics

In fact I don't want to turn off bimetrics. I wanted to try to turn it off and back to on in hope, that it will fix my broken biometric device.

I tried Process Monitor and Access Denied is on C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Vault\...numbers...\Policy.vpol

So what is the right fix?

Thanks

Hi,

Please give System, Administrators, TrustInstaller and Users full control to this file, then test again.

The problem is solved! Thanks for help!

The solution is to give all files within C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Vault\...numbers...\ full control to Administrators.

It doesn't work for me, when I select Biometrics off, I get the error msg "There was a failure while saving your settings..."

1.Under ... vault\ folder I have one subfolder "AC658CB4-9126-49BD-B877-31EEDAB3F204" and 3 files inside. I gave the Full permissions to all the users.

2. I tried to login in safe mode, the same. Any other ideas? thx. G.
