Cannot transfer file to federated domains

We have federation working, (sort of) where we can see presence and chat with federated domains but we can't transfer files or do meetings with audio/video.

Here is the error from the event viewer:

 Resolution:
If this error continues to occur, please contact your network administrator. The network administrator can use a tool like winerror.exe from the Windows Resource Kit or lcserror.exe from the Office Communications Server Resource Kit in order to interpret any error codes listed above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

You're trying to transfer a file to a Skype consumer (not Skype for Business) user.

Unfortunately, this is not supported. You can only transfer files between Skype for Business users.

It also will not work with another company that we have setup federation with. I get the same error message with them also.

Can you confirm the required ports and IP addresses for your Edge server are published correctly?
Having IM and presence relies on the access address (usually sip.domain.com) but Audio\Video and Data transfer relies on two more addresses \ ports.

The setup is ok and verified, we can IM and do meetings with the federated company. When we do a meeting with PC to PC audio the call disconnects. Also, Skype invites have seemed to stop working. Thanks.

Unable to establish Audio connections would normally indicate a misconfigured AV interface or the required ports (TCP 443, UDP 3478) closed.
Presence and IM works with the Access interface (TCP 5061 + TCP 443) and does not involve RTP communications that will be handled by the AV interface.

Skype to Skype for Business invitations use the same mechanism as other federated partners, so if one is working the other should too.

Do you have additional traces of this issue?

I have a little more troubleshooting information, I don't know if this helps or not. I can transfer files to users that are on our internal network. It they take their laptop home or to a different location the file transfer fails, as well as the audio.

Any ideas as to what is happening?

Thanks.

Hi,

What you're describing also indicates there's an issue with the AV and WebConf interfaces on your edge server.

You can follow the diagrams and details here to confirm your edge environment is set up correct.

I will go over the diagram in a few minutes, ALSO one more bit more information: I am able to successfully transfer a file to/from a user outside the network to one of the edge servers with Skype for business installed, BUT not to/from and external user to an internal user.

Hmm.......

This would make perfect sense actually since both users are "external" and the Edge's AV proxy service is not involved (this should also work for you when you have two users outside of the network).

Also, if you're using publicly NATd IP addresses, make sure you specified the NAT address for the AV service.

Double check your configuration and firewall rules against the diagram and I'm sure you'll soon find what's causing that issue.

Everything looks good, all the tests come back good. I did notice this in the configuration information for the MRAS Server and I wasn't sure if it is correct or not:

MRAS Server;sip:edgepool.internal.domain.net@internal.domain.net;gruu;opaque=srvr:MRAS:rXOsj3ufQV-R_DYC3_-RIQAA;Enabled;

This is from a computer that is on an external network, does that look correct?

Thanks.

That looks ok (assuming your internal and external domains are the same).

Can you provide a client-side trace with the error?

The internal and external names domains are different. I will capture a trace today.

Thanks.
