Cannot take ownership of network drive!

I am running Windows 8.1. I connect to the internet through a Linksys EA4500 router which has a USB port for network storage. Currently I have a 3TB Seagate drive plugged in. Unfortunately I cannot modify the contents of said drive. Here are the facts:

1. The owner of the network drive is listed as Unix/Users root

2. Attempts to change ownership through the Properties/Security/Advanced... fail with the Failed to enumerate objects error message. Access is denied.

3. No matter what drive I connect to the USB port, after mapping them to explorer they are listed as owned by root.

4. Connecting the drives directly to my laptop shows the ownership and permissions for System, Everyone, and my user account as expected.

r5. Resetting the router to factory conditions has no effect on the mapped dives.

6. Attempts at taking ownership through an elevated command prompt using takeown and icacls fails with access denied messages.

7. Mapping the drive to a separate laptop running Windows 7 also shows the drive as owned by root.

So currently the mapped drive is owned by a user that doesnt exist. Any ideas how to retake ownership or fix this issue?

Thanks,
