Cannot start Windows normally, being told I have an in-genuine copy of Windows
Hi there. I tried to start up my computer this afternoon and the load screen took awhile before going to black with something in the lower right hand corner telling me "Windows 7, This copy of Windows is not genuine." I had to start up in Safemode to get here. I don't understand what happened, I checked my email this morning, shut down the computer, and that was it. I didn't make any changes to system files. All help is appreciated Edit: After doing a system restore to yesterday morning's settings where a critical update was apparently installed, everything is working fine. But I'd like to know if there's any way that I can see what was changed so I can prevent this from happening again in the future.

It might have been this update - Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is an anti-piracy system created by Microsoft that enforces online validation of the licensing of several recent Microsoft Windows operating systems when accessing several services, such as Windows Update, and downloading Windows components from the Microsoft Download Center. WGA consists of two components: an installable component called WGA Notifications that hooks into Winlogon and validates the Windows license upon each logon and an ActiveX control that checks the validity of the Windows license when downloading certain updates from the Microsoft Download Center or Windows Update.Where did you get your current copy of Windows 7? Mabye there's a problem if it was a VL copy, nothing that a phone call to Microsoft wouldn't fix (if necessary).MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Firstly, are you sure that you are running genuine Windows?you could go to following website : http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and check whether your Windows is Genuine or not.It might be some error that validation failed that time, it will happen if you change your date and time of your PC too.If you did not see any error after visiting the website that I said then everything is fine and it was just a error that gone. But if you see any error after you visit this website http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ then please post error message and its code we will help you to resolve it.
