Cannot specify DNS suffix in VPN Connection Properties
I have a new Dell laptop running Vista Business. I setup 3 network connections, a LAN, a Wireless Connection and a VPN. I can go into each conection's TCP/IP properties (either v4 ov v6), click on the Advanced button and then the DNS tab and specify any DNS Suffixes required for that connection except for my VPN connection. In the VPN connection the "Append these DNS suffixes (in order) is disabled. On my XP box, the DNS option is available on all connections, but I cannot set it in Vista. If I connect using my VPN, I have partial access as expected so I don't think it a connection issue. No matter what I try I cannot get these controls enabled. (No idea if any of these are close to what I need to do but here is what I have tried) I have tried public vs private networks I have tried obtain DNS server automatically and specifying the IP I have tried creating the VPN connection, connecting to the network and not connecting to the network before I try to set the DNS suffixes I have tried checking/unchecking the "change primary DNS suffix" option in the computer name dialog box. I have compared severalsetting that I can find between my XP and Vista machines with no luck Hopefully this is a simply "duh" problem and somebody can help me. Thank you Bruce

Thank you Bruce Has there been any luck with finding an answer for this in two years and two service packs? Same issue, I can set it for the connection, but as soon as I ok it, then go back and examine it, it reverts back to "append primary and connection..." and removes all previously defined suffixes. Really causes a problem and helps to maintain a dependency on WINS. Or is the solution to not use Vista?Chris
