After numerous efforts to resolve this (including installing and uninstalling several times, using Zap Messenger, uninstalling and repairing Windows Live 2011 etc etc) here is a simpler solution that may work.... Go to this file (or click the Windows button, find Windows Live Messenger in the program list) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" Right click, then click on Run As Administrator You should now be able to sign in. This assumes you are using Windows 7 64-bit.
