Cannot share vpn internet access
I have a desktop PC running XP Home, which accesses the internet through a VPN via dial-up through a dedicated satellite connection. Due to my geographical location this is the only way I can get online. I also have a notebook running XP which I would like to get online. If I run ICS on the desktop it clashes with my network router. I have successfully set up an ad-hoc wireless network (to remove the router from the network) by using a USB wireless adapter on the desktop, but even though I turn on ICS and both the desktop and the notebook connect to the wireless network, I cannot get the notebook online. I have been unable to find any similar problems in any forums so I really hope someone can tell me either how to do this, or that it cannot be done. Thanks for your time.1 person needs an answerI do too

One of the VPN's functions is to isolate the PC on which it runs from any other network so that there is no cross-network traffic. If that were not the case, any malicious software running on a system on the same LAN as the system using the VPN would worm its way into the protected network on the other side of the VPN tunnel. It sounds to me like your VPN is doing exactly what it was designed to do.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]--------------------------------https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Brian.TillmanIf a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. The VPN server that I use to access the internet is on a remote server somewhere in France. I have to use a dial-up connection, via a direct satellite link, to connect to the remote VPN which then gives me connection to the internet. What I want to do is share that connection with a notebook on my own wireless network. I am not providing the VPN myself. Apologies if either I didn't explain my problem clearly, or if I've misunderstood your reply. Any help is very welcome.
