It means that you are trying to send a message using a foreign email server, which is called "relaying". An example of this is if your Internet Service Provider ("ISP") is AT&T and you are trying to send an email message using a non-AT&T email server like one belonging to Comcast. Relaying is denied by most ISPs because the technique is used by spammers. People often run into this situation when they try to send email from an email program like Outlook Express when they are away from their home ISP connection. So, how do you normally connect to the Internet (ISP)? What email program are you using? What are your outgoing email server settings (SMTP)? Do not include your email address or any passwords in your reply - we're looking for something like:"AT&T is my ISP""I have my SMTP set up as smtp.something.com""I've only experienced this now when I'm on vacation here in Paris."Or call your ISP for help.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Hi I have the same problem which started a few days ago. I used to have this problem but I forgot how I solved it. I have checked all the settings on Outlook 2003, and they are all in order. Does that mean that I am sending a message using a foreign server? I have not been anywhere recently and have been at home most of the time. Something did happen prior to this. My modem was damaged by lightning and after replacing the damaged modem, I realized that this problem surfaced. But some of my mails did got out but I cannot send anything out now except for mails sent to my own email accounts. I can still receive mails but I cannot send anything out to other email accounts. I think you can only use the SMTP server for the account to which you are connected, so for the other accounts, try using the SMTP server for the one account that not "foreign". That's what the error message indicates by "relaying". steve <Ashboy> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...Hi I have the same problem which started a few days ago. Hi Steve, thanks for trying to help. Went to 1 or 2 websites and read up on "relaying denied" and finally understood. Check this out:http://ask-leo.com/what_does_relaying_denied_mean.htmlIt has to do with authentication . I checked through my email accounts in Outlook and in Internet email settings, outgoing server, I clicked "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Then I clicked - Use same settings as my incoming mail server. After that it worked. And btw, when I called Microsoft for help, they required a MYR (Malaysian ringgit) 90.00 for their technical assistance. Thanks again for trying to help.
