Cannot run windows Activation or Windows Update
Windows 7 installed ok...no problem...setup as dual boot separate drive. wanted to download any applicable updates so ran the 'activation' process but in trying to verify product number I get an error. When I lookup the error it references firewall settings. I turned off firewall and still get same error. Is anyone else having this problem? Appreciate any suggestions. Thx ChrisChris R

Is there a hardware firewall on your network? Maybe a router of some sort?

Here is the message (I cant attach or paste the screen shot): Windows Update Windows could not search for new updates An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer Error(s) found: Code 80072EE2 When I search for a resolution to this error code the best I can find is a problem with firewall. I've turned off the firewall and run this with same error. I can connect to the internet no problem and to microsoft site but cannot run update. I thought it might be a result of not performing the activation but when I try to 'Activate" I get the same error message. ChrisChris R

No hardware firewall. I have a router but unless update and activate use a special port that has to be opened (I have no problem with this in XP or Vista thru the router) then I dont think this is the problem. CHrisChris R

Chris, Initally I got "Error 0x80070241". I fixed that by: Doing another 5-1/2 hour download. Burning my Install DVD using Nero 7 vs. UltraISO. Right clicking on the setup file on the DVD and selecting Run as administrator; whenI did the upgrade install. I hope this helps.Rick J

I would look at your firewall configuration and see what programs are blocked and you should be able to figure out from there what is blocking Update and Activation.
