I would advise AGAINST performing a chkdsk.Sometimes this can cause more harm than good. However, if your MUST.Get a windows recovery CDhttp://repairbotsonline.forumotion.com/tools-and-software-section-f13/how-to-create-a-bootable-windows-xp-recovery-console-disc-t109.htmInsert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive and restart your computer. If you are prompted, select any options required to start (boot) from the CD. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to repair using Recovery Console When you are prompted, choose the windows operating system you wish to access. Next, type theAdministrator password. If you have not set a password for the admin account simply press enter At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r (Note there is a space between the letter k and the forward slash) > press enter. The scan will take some time to complete and is not guaranteed to resolve the issue.Once the scan has completed type exit > press enter. Reboot the computer to see if the issue is resolved. As for a defrag, that is TOTALLY different, heres a link to see WHAT a defrag is and HOW to perform one:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314848Young and learning...Have mercy - ChaosIf this post resolves your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" buttons. You will receive the message the volume is in use would you like to schedule a scan. At this point type y > Press enter > type exit > press enter. Restart the computer and allow the scan to proceed. This may take some time to complete.Sometimes deciding which battle to fight is the toughest battle of all.. Visit my forum @ http://repairbotsonline.forumotion.com/forum.htm
