Cannot remote desktop into a Windows 8 PC

All,

I cannot connect to any Win8 PC in my network. The error I receive is here  -

I have enabled remote desktop in Windows 8.

I have disabled the firewall.

I have done a telnet host 3389 to verify it is listening.

This is a domain administrator account that I'm using.  However, for the purposes of testing I also added the account directly to the remote desktop users group on the Win8 PC.  Still no luck.  Anyone offer any insight?

I have attached screenshots of my settings as well.

You have to adjust the group policies on that machine to allow log on through terminal services.  You can do it manually with gpedit.msc and expand Computer Policy -- Computer Configuration -- Windows Settings -- Security Settings -- Local Policies -- User Rights Management and then change the option "Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services" and add the user or group you want to allow access here.

>So in Windows 8 you have to explicitly define remote desktop through a group policy?  You cannot simply enable it like before?  What is the rational behind this?   Not normally in a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro, you enable it just like you do in Windows 7...   Windows 8 without the pro is like the Home versions of Windows 7 -- no remote desktop.

I created a group name Remote Desktop Users.  I then created a group policy you see below.  I'm still unable to login with remote desktop.

I was able to solve this problem.  It appears someone had already created a group policy and specified a group that was allowed to connect remotely to the PC's. Then that group was deleted.  So that policy was pushing down an old group.

Thanks Champ,

Members of my remote desktop users group were unable to connect. Admins only. Local policy had only the admins group in the "allow login" section, not the remote desktop users. Added remote desktop users group, problem solved.
