Cannot print from a Windows 7 domain computer to a Windows 7 workgroup computer
I have a home office where my Windows 7 Pro laptop is part of a domain at work. I have an HP LaserJet printer that used to be connected to a Windows XP machine but have retired that machine and moved the printer to a Windows 7 Ultimate machine. I used to be able to print from the domain laptop to the old XP machine but I cannot find a way to make that happen using the Windows 7 Ultimate machine. The printer is installed and shared and my other computers (Windows 7 Pro and Vista) attached to the workgroup can print and share files over the network. I can see the Windows 7 Ultimate machine (XPS-420) when I open up the network icon on the desktop of the domain laptop. When I try to open it I get a message box that states “Windows cannot access\\XPS-420” “You do not have permission to access \\XPS-420. Contact your network administrator to request access.” My Advanced Sharing Settings are: Network Discovery – On File and Printer Sharing – On Sharing with anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public Folders – On 128-bit encryption to help protect file sharing connections – On Password protected sharing – Off Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections – On Under Security the security tab in the printer properties “Everyone” is allowed to Print. I have also tried turning the Firewall off. Is printing from a Windows 7 domain computer to a Windows 7 workgroup computer not possible anymore? Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance for the help. PintoJ
