Cannot ping Vista computer from network
I have a network with 3 xp machines wired to ports on my Linksys WRT110 anda newDell laptop using the wireless connection. The laptop has an ip address of 192.168.3.100. The 3 xp machines are 101 through 103. I can ping all the xp machines from the laptop. I cannot ping the Vista machine from any of the XP machines. Everything on the Vista machine works fine . . . I can access the drives and printers on the XP machines. The only thing I can't do is get into the Vista laptop from any of the XP machines. Looking at ther Dell WLAN Card utility shows status is connected, encryption type TKIP, connetion type infrastructure.Any ideas?Rick

Hello Rick,Unable to ping is often caused by an improperly configured firewall. Please checkto see ifa third party firewallprogram installed on the Vista computer and that it is properly configured for the local area network. Thanks Eric, I have been using the Windows firewall which I turned off. I'm using McAfee for virus protection but not their firewall.Rick

Eric,Your information was correct. McAfee had a firewall running in addition to the Windows Firewall. Turning it off solved the problem. Thanks, Rick
