Cannot map network drive to server. Other comp can.
Hi, I am running win 7, and I am trying to map a network drive. Everytime I try browsing my fileserver I have set up, it requires authentication (i have set up guest with FULL CONTROL of the files and add user accounts) yet it says my domain is my computers name. When I use my moms netbook, it goes right through to the server, no authentication needed! How do I turn off windows network secuirty stuff, or at least get my laptop to connect right?? I am running 7 home premium The netbook is running 7 starter.

Hi, Windows 7 Home Premium doesn’t support Domain Join feature, thus you can’t join the computer to the domain. To access the files outside of domain, you need to provide the correct user account and password. Pay attention to add the domain name in front of user account using the following format: Domain_Name\User_Name For example: Test\Win7User After getting access to the network share, you can create a shortcut to map a network drive. Please refer to: Create a shortcut to (map) a network drive Best Regards Dale Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, thanks! However, when I go to my 2000 server computer to add it to a domain, it must have DNS and all that. How do I do it without that?

Hi, thanks! However, when I go to my 2000 server computer to add it to a domain, it must have DNS and all that. How do I do it without that? Active Directory Domain Service must be installed with a configured DNS server. I'm afraid that you can't add a computer to a domain server without DNS.
