Cannot map my Win7 drives from WinXP machines.
I have 7 computers in my house. 6 have XP Pro SP3 and 1 has Win 7. I have everything I can find on my Win 7 box enabled for sharing and I am able to access mapped drives on every computer on my network. However, none of the XP machines can map any of the drives on my Win 7 machine. Please tell me this is a bug and not a feature.

The feature that might be doing that is the password protection of the homegroup. Scroll down to that in the advanced settings of the network and sharing center.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP

I have disabled the password protection in the homegroup, file and printer sharing is on, and network discovery is on.I can map drive E on other computers as well as my desktop now, but no other folders on drive C or D can be mapped from an XP machine.

My XP Lan members have no trouble mapping my Win7 folders that are shared. You have some kind of Permissions error. I would rightclick a C or D drive folder on the 7 machine and look for a way to add the net users to Permissions. There is also the trick from XP of adding an identical user/pass on the 7 machine, so you get the users into the 'everyone' group. Hard to guess what made that necessary. Anti-Virus app?Rating posts helps other users Mark L. Ferguson MS-MVP

Open windows menu and then click on Computer item located at right side of menu to open drives view2. Right click drive you want to share and then click properties3. Click on Sharing tab4. Click on Advanced sharing button5. Check Share this folder check box and leave default settingsIf you want to allow write access to that drive continue with nex step6. Click on Permisions button7. Check Change check box under Allow for everyone userAccording to your needs and current config there may be easier/shrter way to share drives or folders, but this is universal way
