How do you have configured firewalls in both computers? To test if it is a firewall issue, try to temporary disable firewall in client and server, and then map a network drive. If it works, then you have to checkfirewall settings. Regards Jose Antonio Quilez

Just for your information: I also have this problem. I cannot turn off the firewall because of group policy settings, but that was not needed for vista, so I'm pretty sure it is not the firewall causing the issue. This is probably something in Windows 7.

I just noticed that for whatever reason "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" was unchecked in the properties of my wireless network adapter settings. Turning that on makes the Windows 7 share visible on other computers, including my server. Let's see how long it lasts.

Does this seem to help? I am on a domain and have turned on all network sharing options I can find and my network adapter has everything checked except IPv6 as we do not use that here but I still can not share any network drives.

To be honest, I have no idea. It's on and off with this one for me. Wasn't related to the file and printer sharing being off, as another Win7 machine had the same issue but the option was on the whole time. Sometimes I can access the shares and sometimes I can't, but it's always a Vista-Win7 issue. Win7-Win7 works fine every time. So far...

Same issue here. W7 in a ADDS elevated to server 2008 environment. Sometimes I get network shares to work in W7 someitmes not. They all work in Vista sp1 and sp2beta. even on mac OSX. Has there been any luck isolating the issue to W7? or anyone find some specific config that is causing the break? Thanks

If Server 2008 is involved try re-checking IPv6. Unchecking it is not how to disable it and may cause problems. In any case I've never seen an issue that was actually fixed by unchecking it. Here's how to correctly disable IPv6 if you want to do this. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/ipv6/ipv6faq.mspx Scroll down to: IPv6 in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience
