Cannot manage a print server cluster with the printing admin scripts
Hi all, I am having difficulty managing a print server cluster with the built in tools in C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US. They work fine on local or a non-clustered print server but the problem is our non-clustered system is being decommissioned in lieu of the more robust redundant system. Our cluster consists of Win2k3 x64 enterprise servers. What do I need to do to be able to manage a clustered print system with these tools? thanks Pete

Hi, Please understand that the prn* tools are not cluster aware so they could not be used on cluster. We can use prnadmin.dll tool from Windows 2003 Resource Kit that support cluster virtual name. Based on our test, it also works properly on Windows Server 2008 32bit; however, for 64bit, it has some problems. At this point, you could use setprinter included in the 2003 resource kit and manage the server from a remote machine. For more information, please refer to this article (http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2007/08/07/windows-2003-print-clusters-part-three-troubleshooting-missing-print-queues.aspx) For more information about Prnadmin.dll tool, please take a look at the following article.
