Cannot make outgoing network connections from windows 7 64 bit
I've recently been given a new laptop with work, and wanted to be on the latest and greatest so I installed windows 7 64 bit Enterprise addition. Most things have worked great, but I'm getting some wierd networking issues. My xp computer can access file shares on my windows 7 computer, but my windows 7 computer can't even ping my xp computer, any connection attempt times out and I never see my xp computer in the network. My xp computer is accessing my work network through a VPN client with no problems. No matter which VPN client I use on my windows 7 computer it doesn't work. It always times out trying to connect, even with exactly the same profile settings as on my xp computer. Other friends at work have no such problem with windows 7.Despite these problems, my windows 7 computer connects fine to my router and I have no problems using the internet through the router. There are also no problems when I bring my windows 7 computer to work and connect up to the work network.Whether I am at home or at work, interestingly even windows can't connect to it's known sites. Currently on login windows is complaining that my copy of windows hasn't been activated. When I try to activate I get the following error code 0x8007232B 'DNS Name does not exist'.Any help or suggestions to help resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ian, Based on my research, this error code can occur if the activation wizard cannot connect to a Key Management Service (KMS) host computer. To resolve the issue, please refer to the following article: Error message when you try to activate Windows Regarding the connection between Windows XP and Windows 7, it can occur by incorrect system or network settings. Since Windows XP machine can access Windows 7 normally, we can consider Windows 7 network connection is fine. At this stage, I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily disable firewall on Windows XP machine. 2. Install the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package from the link below: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder package 3. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 4. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP. 5. Write down the computer name for Windows XP. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\XP computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the Windows XP computer now? In addition, you can also contact our Windows XP support engineer for detail suggestions. Thanks, Novak

Thanks for your suggestions Novak. I'll update you with my current status:Error Message when you try to activate windowsIt turns out the key I was using from the cd i installed windows 7 from was incorrect. I was given our volume license key, and then managed to activate windows successfully. It was pretty weird and misleading though that a wrong key can give you a "DNS name does not exist" error.Windows 7 PC networking with XP PCI downloaded the suggested LLTD package, but when I ran the installer it told me that I already have a newer version of the same tools in the service pack I'm running. So it looks like that won't resolve the problem.I'm beginning to suspect compatibility issues between my windows 7 computer and my router, so i'm going to investigate that avenue. My VPN still isn't working from my windows 7 PC, and I think that may be related to this other issue.
