Cannot log onto my Windows user account.
Upon entering my password to log onto Windows, I get a message saying the following: "ATTEMPT TO LOAD/RESTORE FILE INTO THE REGISTRY BUT SPECIFIED FILE IS NOT IN REGISTRY FILE FORMAT." It does not tell me the file. I can only log on as a 'temporary user' and have lost some of my recently saved documents and seemingly all personal settings. I cannot figure out how to fix this and log into Windows. I considered trying a system restore, but don't know how that works if I'm logged in as a 'temporary user'. How do I fix this?1 person needs an answerI do too

boot up in safe mode and execute a restore point. its likely you wont have a problem logging in there. It sounds like a damaged user profile. System restore may repair. Otherwise you should create a new user and copy data from the damaged account. See How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151--"Jackson1WA" wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...Upon entering my password to log onto Windows, I get a message saying the following: "ATTEMPT TO LOAD/RESTORE FILE INTO THE REGISTRY BUT SPECIFIED FILE IS NOT IN REGISTRY FILE FORMAT." Would it be wise either way to run a disk error check afterwords? Also, any idea what may cause something like this?-- I might avoid this again.
