Cannot join a work domain in Vista Ultimate
Hi all,I've been trying to join a domain at work on my new vista machine and I'm having lots of trouble. I am a local Administrator on the machine, but not a domain administrator, however, I do have credentials to join the domain. When I go to User Account, I try to add a new user with my domain credentials and the domain I'm trying to join. When I click next, I get the error: "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."How can I solve this problem? Do I need to be a domain admin? I am certain I have a unique computer name if that rules that option out.I was jsut setting up a new XP Pro machine and I had trouble joining at first. I had to log in as a local Admin, add a new user with my domain info and it worked. Then I logged out and back in with the domain selected on the login screen and it worked. That was XP.My new troubles are on Vista, which I'm very new with. Any help is greatly appreciated.PSWe're a tiny company so the IT guy can't figure it out either since I'm the first Vista computer we have here. Thanks in advance,BostonMark

Hi, Generally, you can join a machine to domain with the account that is a member of Local Administrators group and Domain Users group. If you need to create a new user on machine, you must use an account with local administrators permission. In this case, I would like to confirm the following points with you: Have you joined the Windows Vista machine joined to the domain? Can you logon Windows Vista with the domain account? If the machine has not joined to the domain, please perform the following steps to join to domain: 1. Logon the Windows Vista machine with local administrator account. 2. Configure TCP/IP setting on the NIC adapter to ensure that Windows Vista machine is using domains DNS server as the preferred DNS server:-----------2.1 Click Start, type ncpa.cpl in the Start Search box.2.2 On the Network Connections windows, double-click the NIC adapter.2.3 Click Details button, and confirm the following points: the IPv4 IP Address is in the same IP subnet with the Domain Controller in this domain the IPv4 DNS Server is the DNS server in this domain 3. After that, click Start, and type sysdm.cpl in the Start Search box. 4. In the Computer Name tab, click Change button. 5. Under Member of, click Domain, and type the name of the domain. 6. A dialog box will appear and prompts you for the user name and password. Enter domain account name and password on it, and click OK. Hope above information is helpful.
