Cannot install HW devices remotely?
I've got a weird thing going on. We cannot hardware devices like printers or id card readers remotely on Windows 7 Ent x86. We use an admin account and tell where the driver is on the local machine. When it scans, it finds the driver (I see the corresponding little icon saying me it's a printer) and next screen it gives me a 'Access is denied'. Weirder is that a local admin physically on the machine did the same thing and everything went good. It installed. So my question, is this a security layer in windows 7?

Hi, I would like to verify how you added the hardware. Through remote desktop? How about adding the printer as a local printer? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-a-printer I suspect the issue is related to User Account Control. As far as I know, user Account Control helps protect systems by requiring programs to run with a standard account even though a user is logged on as an administrator. Windows 7 and Vista don't allow UAC elevation over the network with a local user account. You can disable UAC or modify the following registry for a test. Navigate to the following key, in the right pane, create value= LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy, data= 1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System More information : User Account Control Overview for IT Professionals Description of User Account Control and remote restrictions in Windows Vista (It applies to Windows 7 as well) Best Regards, NikiPlease remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. The printer is a local usb printer. I tried with a local admin and a domain admin. None of them worked. I'm reading the documentation you sent and will try furthur. Thanks!
