This is an odd one, I am trying to install the printer software for my Wireless HP printer (its fine with my XP PC and laptop) - the install throws a wobbly and says it cannot be installed as "run as" - must be installed as an Administrator - even thoughthe username I use is in the Administrators group.If I then try to "logon as a different user" with the intention of logging inas "Administrator", it always has my loginname in the login window and no sign of any place I can enter Administrator.This is probably a simple lack of understanding on my part of the Vista/W7 interface.Can someone please enlighten me so I can get my printer installed? ta, Brian.

Hi, I would like to know the model of this printer. I suggest going to HP site and download a Windows 7 compatible driver for it. If the issue persists, try Lead3's suggestion. If it does not work, try installing the driver as below: Step 1: Enable built-in admin account ============== 1. Click Start, click "All Programs", please find and open "Accessories" folder. 2. Thanks for replying.Will give it a go tonight along with the W7 compatibility fix Idownloaded fromHP.Its a Photosmart C4580 All-in-One Printer.I did not know Administrator was disabled... that could explain a lot and I think it could be the key here.As for "run as", the message clearly said the software could not install using "run as" but you never know.....

Thanks Lead3, it worked fine with this straight-forward su. - strangely though, trying a run as /user:administrator d:\setup.exe from a command prompt failed with a 1327 error and trying a net user administrator /active:yes caused a syetm error 5 access is denied error /o: not very consistent security system? but as I said, problem now overcome. No Briser, it will make any command you issue at that command prompt be run with administrator privileges. The problem you had before are likely caused by running them as a normal user. You only have the "Administrator" flag when you ask for it, which is a very good security precaution.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup!

If it says can not install 'run as' you would have to first disable UAC, second install the driver and finally re-enable UAC.

Actually it did exactly as I was hoping, I was able to run the command to make Administrator active and now I can switch user and Administrator appears for me to login with.
