Cannot find saved files from webcam
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on a new HP p6230y. I connect to a Linksys netcam through IE. Everything seems to work fine except saving pictures from the camera. I have set up a folder on the desktop to store the still shots and when I save them the dialogue box finds the folder and says it is saving the picture there. However when I open the folder, there is nothing there. The next time I attempt to save a picture there, the dialogue box shows the previously saved file there. So, the save operation shows the saved files, but opening the folder shows nothing. I have gone into file options and enabled showing hidden files. What is more perplexing is that I can mount a thumb drive, and successfully store pictures from the netcam there. It's just the local disk that seems to be unable to display the saved files. What am I missing?

do this, save a image with something like itsme.jpg or whateverNow search for it, do you find and if you find see if the folder path is as you think it should be.

I saved a jpg into the file on the desktop that I had been saving netcam photos. This jpg does appear when I open the folder, but no other photos saved from the netcam appear except when you browse to it to save photos from the netcam application. Both the file I just saved, and the ones saved by the netcam app have the right folder paths. Thanks for the suggestions...

No, I have saved images in both jpg and bmp which are the two formats allowed in the IE save dialogue box and neither is seen when I open the destination folder. As I have said, I can see all previously saved images in the save dialog box. It may not be worth much more time because the work around is to save the image on an external drive such as a thumb drive. Thanks for your help.

The saved pictures must be somewhere. Maybe the webcam application is failed to save the pictures to other location so it stores them to a temporary folder. I suggest you use the following command to search for a special file. dir /s [filename] Please open command prompt window and run this command under root directory of drive C, and D, and others until you find the file. If the files are found, the issue should be caused by the application. I suggest you run the application in Windows XP or Windows Vista compatible mode, also run as administrator. If the issue still occurs, you may need to contact the publisher of the application.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks, I did as you suggested, and the files were found c:\users\xxx\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporary internet files\virtualized\c\users\xxx\documents. However in drilling down, the folder virtualized could not be found. I think you're correct in that it is a application problem, and since it is a low importance problem for me with a work around, I don't think it's worth pursuing. Thanks again.
