Cannot download security updates for Windows Vista - Error Code 800700C1
The security updates for Windows Vista (KB2506212, KB2511455, KB2508429, KB 2479943, KB2393802, KB2412687, KB2510531, KB971029, KB2506223, KB2503658, KB2483185, etc.) will not install on my computer. The Error Code is 800700C1. I have (1) reinstalled Windows Update, (2) removed %windir%\softwaredistribution\wuredir and tried to reinstall updates, and (3) scanned my computer (sfc/scannow). Nothing has worked. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Please proceed like that: Run chkdsk /r /f Run sfc /scannow Download and install Windows Update Readiness tool for Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/ Reset Windows Update components Disable all your security softwares and firewalls If this does not help, perform a repair install of your OS. After I ran sfc /scannow, I reviewed the CBS.log file. My computer has three corrupted files: tcpmon.ini / settings.ini / smipi.dll Can I download non-corrupt files from microsoft's website? If not, where is a safe place for me to download these files? Thanks

Hi, Please find another Windows Vista with the same version, search the three files and replace them. While In-place upgrade can resolve the issue in the end. how did you review the log file? i ran sfc as well and i cant review mine to see what files are corrupt. im assuming the same ones as you. I as well need a place to get these files. I was just on the phone with this tech support guy, but of course he was foriegn and didnt really help me. I need these updates because my itunes coincides with these updates. Im not able to install itunes, i get the same error code from it as i do with my windows update. Any good advice would be helpful.
