Cannot delete driver file - Vista Home Premium
I am trying to delete a driver file off of my computer using an administrator account but access is denied. How can I do this? I want to try another driver. My DVD/CD drive is not working with error 39 (Device Manager). Figured I would try an older driver as a first step. Suggestions?

Qwerty How are you trying to remove the driver? In the Properties/Driver tab for the device, you should see all of the options there for removing/updating the driver. As a last step, if nothing else works, in Device Manger, right click the device and select Uninstall. Reboot and let Windows redetect the device, this should give you options about which driver to install. this is a long time from june 2008, but same issue; delete a file. Am using vista home premium 32 bit system found it while running a virus and then root kit removal programs. it is a part of a download i attempted but i am so dumb on computers that i could not get it done so deleted the programs through uninstall and thought that was end of it. but when ran above found it as a "hidden driver". name of file is " c:\Windows\system32|Drivers\mchlnjDrv.sys". have tried to rerun programs and so far seem to have failed to delete it and have found other files from the download on my system. second issue is; is there a command to enter and how to show all files for a particular site that is on a pc. then to delete them as all were supposed to go (i thought) when i uninstalled website. thank you larbear
