Cannot create a system image , Windows 7 ultimate x64
I have tried multiple times to create a system image writing to my external backup drive. Near the end of the image creation I get an error stating I do not have enough space available. My backup drivehas 147 Gb of free space and my C drive uses only 60 Gb of space.

My C: drive is 126 GB, My backup drive is 279 GB. I tried creating the image to a internal drive that is 465 Gb with 368 GB of free space and after a hour or more it still came back saying there was not enough storage space. As a side notr: I also have a laptop with the same version of Windows 7 and the image creation works. I found this in the Event viewer:*****************************************************************The backup operation that started at '2009-09-01T15:15:59.171170700Z' has failed with following error code '2147942414' (Ran out of memory). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved. The event details are:+System +Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Backup [ Guid] {1DB28F2E-8F80-4027-8C5A-A11F7F10F62D} EventID517 Version0 Level2 Task0 Opcode0 Keywords0x8000000000000000 -TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2009-09-01T15:45:25.006661300Z EventRecordID4168 Correlation -Execution [ ProcessID] 832 [ ThreadID] 5140 ChannelApplication ComputerDura-Ace -Security [ UserID] S-1-5-18 -EventData BackupTime2009-09-01T15:15:59.171170700Z ErrorCode2147942414 ErrorMessage%%2147942414 **************************************************************So what does it all mean? Here is another issue that popped up that may be related:I was unable to create a restore point so I went online for help.I ended up disableing all services and startup items except the necessary. I was then able to create a restore point. Little bt little I proceeded to enable all services and then startup items.Evetually I had them all running and was still able to create a restore point. My system ran fine for a while, until now.My system just crashed, blue screen, again. The event log had a vol-snap error saying it could not creat a shadow copy of my c: drive ( I saw that error before when I could not create a restore point). So I tried to make another restore point, it failed with this error:The restore point could not be created for the following reason:Not enough storage is available to complete this operation. (0x007000E)Please try again. My restore space is set at over 20 GB. I have plenty of storage.Andwhen Iattempted a systenm restore, All my restore points were gone.ARE MY TWO ISSUES RELATED?CAN I BE HELPED?

I don't know id I'm chasing 2 different issues or not. Here is what I did:Turned off System restore to clear its cache, although No restore points were apparent. That in itself did not fix the issue. So I restarted the PC with All startup up items turned off and All services esxcept for microsofts.I was able to create a restore point. I then restarted in normal mode with everything back on and again I am now able to crete a restore point. So I have not a clue as to what is happening. One error that does seem to preceed my inability to create a restore point is this:Its source is called 'volsnao', The shadow copy of volume C: could not be created due to a failure in creating the necessary on disk structures.

Well after all that - It was all due to a Diskeeper 2010Alpha installation. I should have known better! This is not Diskeepers fault - they are looking for these problems.

From your all above post, it determine that everything back on again and the restore point can be created. It is a good news. After researching the above post, this issue may be caused by some special process or programs. Now, you can follow the below steps to find out which process or programs caused this issue: 1. Click "Start", click "Run", type "msconfig.exe" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and click "OK". 2. Click "Selective Startup" and only check the "Load System Services" and "Use Original Boot.ini" boxes. 3. Click on the "Services" tab, uncheck half of the boxes, click "OK" and restart your computer. If this issue occurs, the cause is one of the checked items. Continue to uncheck these items to narrow down the cause and restart your computer. If this issue does not occur, the cause is one of the unchecked items. Uncheck all the items that were checked before, and check the other half that were previously unchecked. Please repeat these steps until we pinpoint the cause. After finding out the root cause, we can try to do a system image backup again on the computer. Betty

Hi Oderuntz,As you may know, mostpotential for backup problems related to third-party Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) Writers. In this thread, 'volsnao' is the Volume Shadow Copy Driver, and Diskeeper will keep read/write the HDD in background running. That may cause the backup failure.its neither Diskeepers nor Windows Backups fault, just a conflicts issue.Personally, I do not use those system turn-up tools as Windows 7 already did a good job on its own.-Good Luck
