Cannot connect to wireless networks, events 4201 and 4202
My computer is running Windows XP Pro, SP3. When trying to connect to wireless networks that I manage, the computer will begin connecting to the network and then fail entirely to connect. I have a workaround with a cable, but this is only temporary.I have tried rolling back windows updates. No luck.I have updated and rolled back the wireless drivers. Hasn't changed anything.Running the command "netsh winsock reset"? No change.I am at a loss for what would cause this to occur. Looking in the System Event Viewer, I noticed that Tcpip has a lot of successive 4201 events followed by an occasional 4202 event.I have an IBM Thinkpad Z60t with a 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter Wireless card and running XP Pro 5.01.2600 sp33 people need an answerI do too

Having the same problem for several months now. Also WP Pro, SP3.In my case the problem seems to always be preceeded by Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7032 Date: 20/02/2010 Time: 17:45:53 User: N/A Computer: LA-IBM Description: The Service Control Manager tried to take a corrective action (Restart the service) after the unexpected termination of the Windows Management Instrumentation service, but this action failed with the following error: An instance of the service is already running. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and Event Type: Information Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7036 Date: 20/02/2010 Time: 17:45:53 User: N/A Computer: LA-IBM Description: The Themes service entered the running state. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. which always come at the same time (up to a second). After that a number of other services are stopped (without any event ID), e.g. DHCP Client Distributed Link Tracking Client HID Input Service Network Connections Network Location Awareness (NLA) Remote Access Connection Manager Secondary Logon Security Center Server Windows Audio Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Wireless Zero Configuration Can manully restart most of the stopped sevices, except Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), after that can re-establish internet connection and sound, but with limited network capability (e.g. cannot see or re-map network drives) Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks, Samson

Overall the symptoms are very much like the ones described for Windows Server systems http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/910666 Cheers, Samson
