What anti-virus software are you using? Have you also tried scanning with an anti-spyware app like SpyBot?Have you cleared your temporary Internet files in both browsers?Even though ping works, it wouldn't hurt to flush your DNS cache. (from a command prompt: IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS)No other 3rd party Internet Security/Firewall apps running on the affected machine?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

no 3rd party firewall on system, AVG free edition, but have had that for a few years now and have tried with that disabled, have flushed the DNS cache several times and cleared the browser caches and temp files, virus scans and anti-spyware sweeps done with several products, including Malwarebytes and Spyware Doctor, as well as Spybot S&D, all of them turn up clean, have also scanned using AOSS (the Alternate Operating System Scanner) to search for rootkits and other hidden malware, that too is clean. So far, I have found about 30 URL's affected, including http://messenger.yahoo.com, http://www.flickr.com, and my own site at http://www.michadcomputerconsulting.com, but here is the interesting thing... Flickr's storage farms I can get to via google image search and linking the image directly, and if I make a new sub domain on my domain and call it let's say website.michadcomputerconsulting.com then I can access that with no problem, even though the original www points to the same IP address. This has to be something to do with DNS on this computer... just need to find out what.

Try changing to different DNS servers? OpenDNS at 208.67.222.222 is one of my faves. Also check your HOSTS files?-B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

already use those DNS servers, only one computer on my network is effected, even if I put it directly on the cable modem. All other devices work. I can ping the sites in question, just web site access, no matter what browser is the issue.

Wow. Have you considered calling a priest? :-)O.K., we can try running the SFC and see if that does anything for us: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q310747 -B- http://www.officeforlawyers.com Author: The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Outlook

Think about a call to a Priest??... nope.... Think about a call to Controlled Demolition Incorporated??... yes... SFC never finishes running, it just hangs the system doing nothing at all for hours on end and no keyboard or mouse response with no progress bar change. edit on march 14, starting to think that truth in advertising law should change the name of this site to Microsoft NO ANSWERS. Micro$oft really sucks for supporting a product that money is paid for... This time next week I switch to Linux for good if I still have this problem in Windows
