Cannot connect to secure websites (https) / windows update broken / windows activation fails
Trying out the windows 7 release candidate, i experience strange problems since 5/27. I cannot connect to any website using https, http works fine, and other ports such as RDP too. I figured this would be a firewall problem ... and even disabled the firewall. I made sure that no proxies are specified in the internet settings. To no avail. Now of course windows update is no longer working, and windows activation is not working as well. Any idea what i can try? thanksFrank

Not sure this helps someone else, but if i could solve this issue by circumventing the problem. If i go to: http://www.xroxy.com and just grab a SSL proxy i can use windows update. But really this should not be the way to do this. Only the windows 7 machine at home has this issue, the other machines (non-windows-7) can connect fine to SSL ...

on second thought ... while the activation worked when changing the settings to use a proxy, that is of course not a solution one would like to use going forward ... so if someone can tell me how to make https work without changing the proxy settings ... i'd look forward to it ...
