Cannot connect to LAN or sound from OS X Parallels Desktop Virtual Machine
I've already raised this question with the Parallels company, but it's unclear whose problem -- aside from mine! -- this is. So I'll ask the question here, too.I have a Macbook Core Duo with 2GB RAM. I'm using Parallels Desktop v3 on OS X 10.4 to create virtual machines. I've been using a virtual XP machine for some time now with everything working well. I installed the Windows 7 beta on an external drive as a virtual machine without incident. The system boots fine, I can access the bundled apps ok, but neither networking nor sound works. I've configured Parallels as I did for XP, but it still doesn't see the Airport network adapter. (Yes, the network is configured as Shared in Parallels.) And Explorer doesn't see the Macbook's disk, either. The only thing I haven't tried (yet) is to use a wired connection to my router. BTW: though it ought to go without saying, the Mac OS X connects to the network just fine, even while running Windows 7 in Parallels Desktop. As I said, this might be Parallels Desktop's problem, but does anyone in this forum have any suggestions?Update: I tried using a wired connection, but that didn't work either.

Thanks, but I don't think this is a feature request. The fact is that accessing the network from within a virtual machine ought to be core functionality. BTW: I also tried using a wired connection without success. I qualified my original comment because I don't know if this is an issue for Microsoft of Parallels Desktop.

For me it works fine (sound and wifi) after reinstalling Parallels Tools. But I use Parallels v4 with the latest updates on a MacBook Pro, 4GB, and I have Windows 7 installed on the hard disk. I also have Windows XP running as a virtual machine, but Windows 7 does not recognize the Office programs installed there, just the Mac programs. Should I install Office again in Windows 7? I do get strange bleeps when hitting the keys sometimes (in Safari, writing this).

I have never run Parellels but if it's like other VM software the guest OS does not see the host hardware, they see the pseudo hardware of the VM software. So, you really should talk to Parallels about this so they can help get you on the right path to getting your setup working correctly.Additionally, if you go to the Parallels website @ http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/stm/system-requirements/full/you will note that at this time Windows 7 guest support is experimental! So, again, your source is Parallels for more information and support of their product.

Irwin, maybe your problem are drivers. I have never used paralells, but i use Virtualbox. If we want to make the interaction better, between the host and the guest O.S. we have to install the virtual machine additions. Don't you have some like that in parallels? Install the latest version, install the updates, etc.... I think this will solve your problem. Unless the parallels is not compatible with Windows 7 for some reason.
